Plant City initially bore the name of the Native American village it was founded on, Ichepucksassa. Around 1864, this was changed to Cork. This honored his hometown and heritage and was simple and straightforward. 21 years after the name change, Cork became Plant City, with a theme of “Embracing the Future, While Preserving the Past”.
